MOT servicing near Belfast

Hello everyone, hope you're all well on this cold day! I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any small businesses for MOT servicing in or near Belfast? I don't want to pay a fortune, which I know will happen if I go to the Ford dealership...

  • We used Ava Garage on Ava Street off the Ormeau Road last June for a service and MOT check for a Ford Focus. About £100 inc. an oil change and new spark plugs. Tel. No. 028 9064 2155. A small operation but well run. They told us what would need to be done within the next year to ensure that it would pass another MOT. They are mentioned (and recommended) in at least another two threads on the NI Forum.

Two years earlier Lindsay Ford told us the car needed £1300 of work. At the time we went to a garage in Bangor who got it through the MOT for £200. I wouldn't recommend them because they replaced the front discs and pads and the wheels squealed on and off driving me nuts until we traded the car in last July.

You can't go wrong with Ava.

  • Hi , theres another thread running which is similar to this one.... Its called pre - mot sercice in carrick newtownabbey .

There are quite a few garages mentioned in there just incase you want to take a look.

p.s think the thread im refering to is on page 2 or 3 .
The loopy one has gone :j
  • Thanks to both of you! Will check out both of those avenues :j

Jenny, I went to Lindsay ford when my AC stopped working and they quoted me something like £400 without labour and a 2 week wait...went to a place in Dunmurry and they replaced it within the day for £100 all inclusive

Main dealers generally don't believe in fixing anything - they almost always will replace a suspect part with a new one (usually with a hefty price tag). Your friendly local mechanic (or auto spark, aircon specialist etc) is much more likely to a) know what's actually wrong and b) get you the most cost effective repair.
  • Thanks to all of you for your recommendations, have phoned Ava garages as they're nearby, and they're taking the car on Monday! Great stuff :)
