Rechargeable Batteries for camera

I need some AA batteries for my digital camera. The ones I already use only hold their charge for a short time, so I wondered if I needed special ones or if the ones I have are that old that I just need new ones. Do rechargeable ones only work well for a certain amount of charges/time?
Thanks
Thanks

Yeah it could be the age of the batteries alright. How long have you had them for?
Depending on usage conditions 300 - 1000 charge/discharge cycles can be expected with rechargeable batteries. More often than not people tend to think because they are rechargeable they last forever, this isn’t true at all.
Are the ones you have Ni-Cad? If so then perhaps you should consider Ni-Mh rechargeables instead. Also, if the mAh is fairly low they won't last as long as high capacity mAh. I'd recommend 2500 mAh Ni-Mh though 2300 should be OK. Obviously the higher the mAh the better.
These from 7dayshop might be preferable: 7dayshop Rechargeable Ni-Mh Batteries - AA Cell Size (2500mAh). These also come with a free case.
I’ve used 7dayshop a couple of times in the past, they’re fairly reliable.
I take it you've already got a charger??
I must also point out that it has been said that generic batteries are not as good as non generic ones. I'll leave that for you to decide. There are non generic batteries on 7dayshop as well though you may also want to shop around for these.0 -
I was just reading Battery Myths vs Battery Facts which has got me thinking. You may want to consider a higher mAh for your camera as it's a high draining device.
Something like these might be more suitable.0 -
Thank you so much Lugh. I have had the batteries for about 5 years and they are 1300 mAh and they have been used for loads of gadgets over the years, so yes you are right they have had it!!
I do have a charger, so thats an expense I dont have to fork out for
The 7dayshop sounds great, I will order 4 of those, thank you again for your help.He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

No problem, always a pleasure!
By the way, what type of charger is it that you have? I'm reasonably sure that's it's appropriate though do check as a NiCd charger might not be suitable for Ni-Mh batteries.
I'll have to look this up sometime as well as I'm not up-to-date with this.0 -
Oh, well I will look it up, but its a UNiROSS X-PRESS 150....
Just had a look on the Amazon site and its for Ni-MH so thats ok isnt it? ThanksHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Actually that is quite a crap charger when compared to a decent one like this one here. NiMh rechargeables need a good charger to get the best from them, not one like you have! That charger is 'dumb' and does not stop delivering current to the battery when it is full. This in turn damages the battery. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'm a daft idiot as I forgot to mention Delta-V chargers are best. I wouldn't mind, I've even read into this not so long ago as well. Can't remember everything I suppose.
I should actually get one of these too as the one I have is also crap, I was being a bit tight at the time I bought it. I knew it wasn't much good when I bought it as well.
Never mind, as the one I have cost very little and the one you've pointed out is quite inexpensive as well.0 -
Thanks Espresso. I'll get one of those too.
