Hello I am a long time lurker and first time poster.
My OH and I have a lot of debt that we are now managing and paying off, we, with the help of this forum have arranged repayment plans with most of our debts. Howvere there where many and sometimes we find that one slipped through the net or some payments have been missed. This happened a few months ago when I had ot change my bank account to a Cashminder, but we thought tha twe where back on an even keel or there abouts.
On Saturday morning, about two hours after the post had come, we received another letter form our neighbour down the road, he redelivered as it had my OH name on it. At htis point I should explain that we line on a strange road that is two old rows made into one cul de sac, with two seperate rowas of terrace houses on opposite side with the same numbers and street names and some names bungalows. We have differenct pre fixes to the cottage names for each side and different letters at the end of the postcodes. But we often find that we get post for the same number on the other side nad htey get ours.
This letter was addressed ot my OH but had the prefix of other cottages and their post code.
It was not a debt that we recognised or a company (the debt was for over £7500 and we are dealing with the bigger ones and was through Hillesden and Northampton Court). The letter was from the wonderful DLC (LOL) we have dealt with these lovely people before.
OH is now worried, but I am jsut annoyed, are they trying ot assign my OH name to a debt on that cottage or just trying to find him through another route (although we are sure that this is not his debt)
We have had alot of trouble with the other propety as it has been a rented place and we often get debt letters for their tenants for old fuel bills. We ended up have Scottish Power take us to court, install pp meters in our house under court order for a debt on other house. I am now reclaiming that £1500 from them, but that is another story.
Are they just trying it on? Why are they sending letters with his name to another address? What should we do now?
Thanks in advance

So DLC and Hillesden are one and the same, but we still don't recognise or know who or where this debt originates. Any help gratefully receivedSealed Pot Challenge # 1040 - Doing well 0 0

I wouldn't put anything passed them, the thing is that the debt was on the other number 6, we also had a much smaller debt (£42 on the gas) and they just decided it was the same property. I didn't have the will at the time as everything was out of contro land let it get really out of hand. They then got court orders etc and scared me into submission really. They would not have it that the meter was a different code etc. So they changed to PP meters nad we have paid it back as nothing could be taken ot the court etc until the debt was paid. We are nearly there now and the case is starting again. In the past we have had three spot checks in one month on our old meters as we where suspected of meter fiddling as we didn't use enough gas apparently.
In the meantime the other number 6 have run up fuel debts with Eon and NPower nad we are now getting the letters for that. I won't back down this time, but it is scary how wrong these things can get. That is why I am not going to take this debt that is being assigned to me OH.
Can anyone advise me on what is the best way forward with this DLC letter please?Sealed Pot Challenge # 1040 - Doing well 0 0
