Help with overwhelming debt

Can anybody help me, in short I am in debt with credit cards and loans upto the sum of just over £27,000.
I am trying to find additional work but live in quite a rural area, do you know of any data entry work that you can do from home or anything I can do from home? in order to whittle down the debt?
I am really worried as I have a £850 overdraft and am currently living off credit cards just for food and fuel. I don't go out drinking and I don't smoke.
I have made cutbacks wherever possible and currently go to work for 7.30 - 5pm and then home.
I have called several credit card companies as I am struggling with payments and they don't want to know, even when I offered to make reduced payments, they then send a letter asking for it all?!
I am not sleeping and really could do with help getting a plan together.
I really feel out of control and would like to get some control back in order to deal with this. I feel at a loss of what to do and really want to work to get some extra income so I can start to whitlle the debt down and eventually clear it. Please :(

    Hi
Stick around here and other, wiser folk will be along to help.
They ask you to prepare and post a SOA-statement of affairs so they can help you to reduce your outgoings, give you ideas and offer advice.
It is also useful to read these forums especially the frequently asked questions/rules bits and also other people's experiences of debt-it shows you that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
    Good luck!

  • Hi Snoopy, :hello:

Well done for asking for help. To get you started there is a really useful sticky thread for first time posters, by SouthernScouser:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280

It gives you information on detailing your Statement Of Affairs (SOA). Once you have posted you will get lots of help from the friendly people on this site. Have a look at other debt diaries for inspiration too.

    Good luck

  • Don't forget to read Martins guide to problem debts as well http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1103204730,72152,
  • Agreed with all the above, but a short answer to your question is YES - there are 2 charities funded by loans companies which are set up to help people manage debts - CCCS and PayPlan. If you meet their criteria they will help you negotiate with your credit card people and bank, which may even reduce the level of your debt.

    Read Martin's article
Post a SOA on here because if you look around you will see that there are lots of helpful people here who will support you through this process (you've done the worst bit already by facing up to your debt :))
If the size of your overdraft is worse because of bank charges, read the thread on reclaiming bank charges and follow the advice there.
Keep smiling (or start smiling) because things get better from here onwards :)

    Welcome Snoopy.

How much are you earning ? Isn't it enough to live on if you're using credit cards to buy essentials? Perhaps you're entitled to some help? There's a link to the CAB site at the top of the page.

I can cook and bake and am trying to utilise time at home so I can walk dog, do cleaning and look after friend's house whose in hospital, feed husband, dog and cat! Busy Busy Busy!
Looking at contacting a company who are looking for bookeper/admin and see if they'ed be willing for me to work evenings perhaps, they said it was fleixble.

So keep fingers crossed and will post soa asap.
Does anyone know of any companies that do data entry from home? and not the ones that are scams?

    Cheers

It is very difficult to get a job that isn't a scam, but there is a website, for homeworking (sorry I don't know the link), that is for the Home working industry body.

Can you sell anything on ebay to help out? Hope your friend is ok. Once this crisis is past, then do post and SOA. I am sure we can help
