Couple, First time buyers, one with poor credit - can we get a mortgage?

We are a couple currently renting who would like to look into buying. I have a good credit record and no debt (except student loan). My partner has poor credit and is paying off a debt of about £9000 through a charity, the CCCS. They have been paying off consistantly for 3yrs. We have a good deposit. We don't know whether we are able to get a mortgage. Both earn around £17000/pa. Can we get a mortage under my name that takes into account the amount that my partner would pay each month towards the mortage? If not what are our alternatives?
Thanks in advance for your help.

What do you mean by a good deposit, and what value of house are you looking at?
If you take out a mortgage in your name only, your partner's income wouldn't be taken into consideration. Would it be an option to pay off the outstanding debt with the money you've saved for a deposit, and then build up savings again? The debt will have an impact on how much you will be loaned.0
