How to get chewing gum off a football top

My son managed to spread chewing gum over his football top. It's not in one lump but more like thick spiders webs.
I've put it in the freezer but as it's not in one lump it is still as sticky as before.
I've tried wasing it on a cool wash too thinking that would shift it but no. Is there some kind of solution that would do it. I'll try anything as the only other option is to bin it. Thanks Melissa

Here's a tip I just found on the internet
"Put washing up liquid on the chewing gum (if spread in) and then add salt. With another piece of fabric rub against the thread of the garment.
There's a few more tips on this site, I'm not sure about the one suggesting WD40 given it's a football top.

If none of these work, I would say the top has prob had it. I don't know how old your son is but if it's reasonable, I'd make him try these methods to get the gum off - accidents happen but it wouldn't go amiss to remind him to be a bit more careful in future.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Sticky stuff remover available from lakeland0

Try putting ice cubes directly on the gum leave it for a while see if you can then pull it off worked on a carpet for me.0

Place brown paper over the chewing gum and then use hot iron. That often gets off `stickyness!
I have heard that peanut butter works so try that before washing cap.
Also try WD40. HTH0 -
put it in the freezer - the whole top and the gum will freeze and crack off - think it will need more time in freezer as should freeze and come off fineSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Hi rsdiscos,
I use the freezing method to get the majority off and then if there is a residue try the washing up liquid and salt, which incidentally works wonders on chewing gum in hair (ask me how I know and how I avoided having to take a great chunk out ds hair with scissors).
Please come back and let us know what worked for you.
This thread has more suggestions so I'll merge your thread with it later to keep the ideas together.
