Chanel No5

My wife has hinted she would like this but when i searched for it there is eau de parfum,toilette etc.Which is the original No5 and the best place to buy please.

I don't understand what you mean by "the original No 5". The two you've quoted in your post are the strengths they come in. Usually Eau de Toilette is the lightest, then Eau de Parfum and then the Parfum itself but different manufacturers sell them in varying different strengths and often call them different names, like Soie de Parfum for instance.

My personal preference is for Eau de Parfum and if this scent is going to be new to your OH I wouldn't recommend that you buy her the Perfum as it can be very strong and a little goes a very long way, but smelling it from the container may not give a good idea of what it would be like on the skin as it's so very concentrated.

In my opinion, whatever strength you choose, an atomiser would be best as it would keep for longer as there will be no contamination with the skin when it's used which can cause the scent to change over time.

Like a lot of perfume houses Chanel are extremely protective of their brand and its reputation so it's very difficult to buy it from anywhere other than approved retailers who all seem to charge very similar prices, so it's not easy to find it keenly discounted.

Thanks,it's my ignorance not knowing the difference.My wife remembers it from years ago so i put original incase they had brought out new ones with slight differences.

Gotcha.

They've reformulated one of my favourites, Arpege, and the new one bears no resemblance to the original although they are calling it by the same name. I was very disappointed when I bought some quite recently as it's completely different to me.

I don't think they've done this with Chanel No 5 although I would definitely ask whichever retailer you visit to double-check.

Debenhams only do 10% off cosmetics on Mega Days.

Be vary of ebay as loads of fake No5 there.

Strange but true No5 is slightly different in each of its varitions.

EDT eau de Toilette the lightest version
EDP eau de parfum is the next highest in parfum oils
Parfum the highest fragrance oil to acohol version.

Rules on perfume ingredients and safety have meant all fragrances have been reformulated.

The parfum houses have to find alternatives for the banned ingredients.
Or the perfume house have been bought out and they now use cheaper ingredients to save money. This can change how the fragrance smells.

I belong to two perfume boards and Chanel users all agreed yes Chanels have changed. Many refuse to buy anything but vintage.
