Cattern Cakes and Lace

I wonder if any of you OSers know of the above mentioned book? About 20 years ago I was given it and it was wonderful. It was a recipe book based upon traditions which go back hundreds of years. It was in calender order, so there were things like Stir up Sunday recipes, Easter, Harvest, Maytime, Whitsuntide, Christmas and so on. It described the traditions history and then gave the recipes which were traditionally made for the celebration. I lent it to one of my Aunties and she lent it out and I never got it back. I was just talking to DD2 about Stir up Sunday and remembered about it. Have any of you got it and does anyone know where I could get a copy? I have looked on Amazon, ABE books etc but no luck. It could also be that I am misremembering the title. Any ideas?

I found it using http://www.fetchbook.info/ according to them Abe do have a copy. You will probably need to scroll right down and tell it you are in the UK and want prices in GB pounds.
  • I haven't heard of your book but do have "Have a Goode Year - How to celebrate on a shoestring" by Shirley Goode. It to goes in order through the year with the different celebrations and gives you recipes and the folk lore behind them. The ISBN no is 0-563-21450-3 - you might be able to pick one up second hand from Abebooks
