Hiya guys washing machine just broken down so need a new one.

Anyone recently bought a fairly cheap but ok machine????

I just did a load of research and unfortunately, unless you go to big bucks (and I mean 'big'!)), it seems to me that all of them have big complaints. I landed on an LG machine which was largish (7kg) and about £270 I think. The reason I ended up there was that they seemed to have some better reviews than most, and the drum is direct drive rather than belt so less likely to go wrong (so much so that the drum itself has a 10 year warranty). It may not be the cheapest, but it sounded like it would run longer than some of the cheaper ones ("...you pays your money ..."etc)
Looking at one site run by an engineer he says: "The LG washing machine is easy to work on from a repairman;'s point of view and looks like a decent product." (http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/forums/topic/137-lg-washing-machine-review-wm14225fd/)

I've only had it for a few months but it seems ok to me, and is particularly quiet.

I notice the Candy washing machine on the top of the page posted by BallandChain. I have a Candy which I've had for 7yrs, it's fairly reliable though probably not as quiet as the LG WM14225FD mentioned in post #2.

I particularly like the 32 min fast wash, it comes in very handy.

I have a Candy too Lugh. It's had a new selector dial replaced while it was in warranty. Now the display lights are acting up again,they keep jumping around. As it's out of warranty it would be too expensive to get this fixed so will hang on til it packs up completely, lol. My 32 min cycle says it washes at 50 degrees and yet it's definitely cooler than my 40 degree wash which has gone very hot! Something isn't right.

I have a Beko, and I have nothing put praise for them.
I bought mine for around the £150 mark 7 years ago from Argos and have had no problems with it so far, touch wood! It was their most basic model, but it does speed wash, cold wash etc etc. I think they have gone up to around £180, but worth it in my opinion. My sister has even moved both her washer and dryer over to them.
I have been toying with the idea of getting a dryer from them, and most places sell them eg. comet, currys, tesco etc.
