Basic Bank Account Nightmare!

So I'm still trying to open a basic bank account so that I can set up my DMP with CCCS. I posted a while ago that we were declined for a Natwest Step Account. We decided to approach Lloyds as OH already has a cash account with them but we can't have that as a joint account and the woman said she couldn't open a cash account for me (no idea why because I don't think my credit file is all that bad yet!).
So last night I got on the phone to Co-op (no local branches so couldn't go in). I'd read that they are the most lenient ones. They have told me that my application for a sole Cashminder account has been referred to the underwriters and I will have a decision in 3-5 working days?? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm at my wits end if this one gets declined as well. Any ideas what could be causing this nightmare?

Try Barclays also for their cash account - they are BR friendly also. Make sure you are asking for a basic account though as banks will put you through for a normal account otherwise.
Can't think why you would have been referred by the Co-op. I've read this happening and people being accepted.
Have you checked your credit file as to why you are being declined.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

As I said in your other post, try the Halifax - Easycash, you can apply online and usually get it opened there and then, but like any bank you are new to (if you are), you will need to visit branch with ID, also.
Martin Lewis was saying the other day of Lorraine, that the CO-OP Cash minder and the Barclays Basic accounts were accounts that people would definitely get opened up, despite their history.0 -
I think you may have clicked on a cheque account instead of the very basic one. My husband did the same and only realised once he was rejected...it's very easy to get confused on the website. Obviously you won't be accepted for a cheque account if your credit is bad but they will accept you for the basic account as there is no need for underwriters to be involved.0

When I applied for a COOP Cashminder account it was referred to the underwriters, I stressed for 3-4 days then the welcome pack dropped onto the doormat.2 days later the debit card then the day after that the pin.Try not to worry I have bankruptcy on my credit file and they accepted me:D now I have 2 accounts one for day to day spending and the other for bills.I also have applied for a Barclays basic account which has been referred but I am not concerned about this All I want this account for is to keep money in that I put aside each week for birthdays , xmas etc.:)Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0
