Job hunting when you don't know what career to go into...

.... during what could be another recession and things!
A quick recap! Graduated 2006, got a minimum wage job, worked in a bank as an op's assistant, worked there for 9 months, got a job as a resourcer in Recruitment. Thought I was about to find my niche in sales and recruitment and account management but the recession hits and I lose my job.
This is where I hit it lucky. Got a few roles within various NHS trusts as a recruitment administrator then almost got a perm role with an oil company but then there was a whole episode with homophobia etc... Then got a graduate trainee job with a local government organisation and built up procurement, project management, ICT project management and things.
Now with recruitment freezes, restructures and being trained as a general manager in a strategic role when there's going to be no more strategic roles means that I might have to leave slightly earlier than I planned! I've had a bit of a jumpy CV so wanted stability but can't seem to do it!
This is the final part of advice I need. I don't know what I want to do for a career. I have about 9 months left of a fixed term contract and need to line up a job, but I have no idea what I want to go into around London! Not that I'm trying to get people to make decisions about me (but I'm outgoing, sociable and people listen to me when training or presenting) I think I would be suited to something more guidance based and less management information based. I've been working hard and trying to break the perception of "local government workers are inept" to prove myself but not cutting a break!
So the second request: What jobs are there for someone who is depserate to settle for about 3 years in a role to show he can do a role!? And prove he can work at it?! Are there roles people have gone in to whilst initially says that's not like me, but then loved it?
I'm stuck for ideas and how to market myself and really don't want to jump from job to job for the next few years! (obviously this is all dependent on CSR and other things!)
Any ideas greatly appreciated!

What was your degree in?0

What subject is your degree in? Have you ever thought about doing something related to it? You could perhaps target companies that specialise in the field related to your degree?
Is there anything that you're really passionate about? A career is one thing, but being very successful in your career usually requires a passion for whatever it is that you do.
You're right no-one can answer or make decisions for you, because we don't know you at all. Soul searching time, I think.
Good luck!0 -
Hi. Was much same few years ago. Suggest if you can find way to to it that you take the opportunity to take some time out. Maybe do some voluntary work using your degree or get a TEFL and volunteer abroad for a year. Think you need some time out to find yourself and then maybe you will find some direction.
