(Toothsmith?!) Missing baby tooth - will adult tooth be missing too?

My DD is 15 months and currently has 12 teeth, with another eye tooth coming through and from the happenings of today, her last molars also on the move.

The ones she has left to get are the last four molars, the bottom eye teeth and the eye tooth on the top left (as I look at her), and the bottom left (as I look at her) lateral incisor.

This lateral incisor 'should' have comes through ages ago according to the order they're supposed to come in, so tonight I Googled about missing baby teeth to discover it's a genetic defect and if you don;t get the baby tooth through then the adult one is missing too!

This is right at the front! I can;t believe my little girl will always be missing such an obvious tooth!

I wondered if anyone else has this? Or if someone knowledgable could tell me more and how I go about getting it sorted (implant?) in the future. I don;t want to reply on googled info and it's a bit early to see the GP or dentist about it, but I'm worried!

Don't panic. The tooth may not be missing 15 months is still not too late for it to come through. Even if it is missing the adult tooth may not be. Even if the adult tooth is missing it may very well not leave a gap and may very well not be noticeable anyway if it is a bottom tooth.

It is nothing to worry about at this age but ask your dentist next time your daughter sees them. Relax and enjoy your child.

    Don't worry about it.
Counting my bottom teeth, I only have 13 and that includes both my lower wisdom teeth. I have a molar missing on each side and one of the 4 incisors, I couldn't tell you which one though as the 3 that are there are very similar.
I don't find it's noticeable that one of my main teeth is missing, there are no gaps and my dentist has never been concerned :D

PS, I'm a great deal older than 15 months ;)

My Ds now 20 has a lateral insisor missing, he had orthodotic work to 'move' his teeth and fill the gap, and unless you know it isnt noticeable.
By the way Tom Cruise has this condition too, ever noticed his teeth?

As others have now said - It's really nothing to worry about.

If it's there, it'll come through, if it's not, it won't but things will close together by themselves anyway. If they dont they can be helped.

I wouldn't make any special dental visit, but ask next time you go if it hasn't appeared by then.

But don't panic! It's more than likely just late!

There is no point even looking for it with something like an x-ray yet - as knowing wether it's there or not won't change anything, and nothing can be done other than close the gap (if it doesnt close naturally), and that won't be necessary until he's in his teens.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

My mother and grandmother both had an eye tooth growing inside the gum, but lengthways. My mum had a false tooth made as she had a whole tooth sized gap between her front teeth. When she came to have all her teeth out, (she's 89 now!) she told the dentist this and he didn't believe her! Until that is, he took xrays, and sure enough, there it was!! Sorry, this doesnt help at all but I think it is interesting!:o

Thanks all. I guess I'm concerned about her looking odd and being bullied. She has a squint, too, and thanks to both me and her dad will have sticky-out ears, and I just don;t want her schooldays to be as awful as mine.
