Not happy with new Specsavers glasses

I love the new frames but the lens themselves are much thicker than in my last glasses, quite heavy, and are leaving red marks on my nose, which are a little bit painful as well. They (Specsavers) tested my vision a week ago and there was very little change from my last test four years ago, which was done by Boots. My Boots frames are fairly thin metal, and the lens fit exactly insde them. The new specsavers glasses (designer frame from French Connection, £99) are just as thin, but the lens are so thick they extend beyond the frames on both sides, ie back and front. How can this be? And what can I do about it?
The old Boots frames are quite ugly and falling apart. I do like the new FC frames but not the thickness of lens. What can I do about it?
Thanks for any help!

take both pairs to specsavrs and tell them you aren't happy and why.0

I took a pair back about a year ago because once I picked them up and took them home I hated them (the frames not the lenses). They wanted to me to pick another pair but I said no and they gave me a refund.
Have a look here, they want customers to be happy with their purchase so it's worth going back.
Good Luck!0 -
is there any chance your boots ones were thinned? What number lens are they?
I bought from specsavers on sunday and they somehow managed to get me a pair the next day (the free pair came weds).0 -

I've lost the old Boots prescription so I don't know the number lens. All I know is they are much thinner! I can still use them and the difference between the two pairs of glasses is extrenely slight. I'll be going into Specsavers with both pairs; last night the redness on my nose and the pain got so bad I had to use my old ones again; I'm using them right now.
They are both varifocals.0 -
Did you go for thinner lenses last time? Higher refractive index? If you now have standard lenses, they will be thicker. Go back and get them to have a look at the old pair and tell you why the new are thicker. Also if the new frames are larger this will increase thickness.0

I agree, go back and take both pairs with you...
they might be able to do something with the fitting of your glasses if it turns out you paid extra for thinner lenses last time round.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I don't remember paying extra for a thinner lens last time; but maybe I did? The new glasses are not necseearily larger, just a different shape; rectangular, whereas the old ones are sort of a wonky oval -- typical old lady glasses. I hope something can be done without paying extra! Thanks for the tips.0

I cannot comment on the thickness of your lenses but I would say that I went back to Specsavers several times to have my new glasses re-fitted. They were hurting behind my ears and making deep dents on the sides of the my nose.
Eventually, they managed to get them fitting comfortably but it did take a bit of perserverance - on my part as well as theirs!0 -
Well, I did go back today, with both pairs. They were astonished at how thin the Boots lens were and even tried to call Boots to find out if they had been especially thinned, but did not get through. I was told that the glasses I;d chosen were so wide the lens had to be thicker, and also they were quite deep. That was a bit of a surprise to me, since the lens aren't very strong, the frames aren't all that thick -- what do other people do???
Anyway I was told I should choose a different frame that was less wide and lighter. A member of staff came round with me and I selected a few -- all of them were half-frames. And I'd really liked the ones I'd first chosen, spent weeks selecting them as the ones I liked best!
Also I was told I can pay extra for a thinner lens, which I did: £40 more!
I'm still not sure I did the right thing. I don't really like half-frames in general; never considered them while choosing the frames the first time. But Maybe it's a lesson in not being so vain...
I still have those red marks on the side of my nose, and am back to wearing my old glasses till the new ones are ready.0 -
The advice they gave you about the shape of the glasses is correct. I was always advised to choose particular shapes so the edges of the glass weren't as large and obvious. The larger the frames the less obvious it is too. I prefer smaller frames and wouldn't be seen dead in Deirdre Barlow 1980's frames so ended up getting glasses with thick legs so the extra width of the glass wasn't so obvious. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
