Was looking for a replacement set for my 13 year old and came across these at our local ASDA for £12. Normal selling price £15. Next cheapest I could find online was £17.
Mixed reviews, Ave 3.5, but good price for Turtle Beach headset for the kids.

I bought some of these from Tesco a couple of weeks ago, and took them straight back the next day.
From what I can tell, they're great if you want to play Xbox with sound without waking people as they plug into the TV audio with a nice long cable, it easily reached across my living room, but I found for Xbox Live I couldn't hear a word anyone else was saying to me.
Of course mine could have been faulty
I think I paid about £17 for them at Tesco. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.

The instructions aren't great and we had the same problem initially but see the reviews on Amazon - you need to set your voice settings to play voice output "through both".
Son thinks they are great and better than the ones he got with his xbox

Yup, followed the instructions and set it up as described. Still found the voice chat unusable. It's a shame, as I liked the idea of having all audio in headphones so I could play as late and as loud as I wanted without fear of waking anyone up.
To be honest, the only reason I went for a refund rather than exchanging them and trying another pair was because a friend of mine gave me his spare headset just before I took it back to the store.
If your Son's is working as it should then that confirms that mine was probably faulty
