Northern Rock

Not sure if I'm in the right place.

My daughter and son in law had a mortgage with Northern Rock. Everything was fine until the recession when their business died and they were struggling to pay a hefty mortgage.

They tried so hard to do the right thing but whatever they tried, it was blocked by Northern Rock. I can't decide whether the company are totally inefficient or totally bloody minded.

She contacted them and a reduced payment was agreed in principle but full payment had to be made for three months and then a decision would be made.

She was getting phone calls every day and had to repeat everything that had been said the previous day.

Then my son in law was offered a job in Australia so she asked Northern Rock if she could rent the place and make up the shortfall. That I believe was last June. She is still waiting to hear!

She paid the full rent for three months and then set up a direct debit for the reduced amount. Two months running Northern Rock tried to claim the full amount. She rented the property because at least it was money coming in.

She told them she was in Australia but letters have been going to the house here, the last one being a legal demand for payment.

She has finally given up trying because as I said whatever it was Northern Rock blocked it. She's cancelled the DD and told Northern Rock to do as they like.

What a disgrace they are and this is no doubt happening to thousands of people. I told her to walk away months ago but she wanted to do the right thing. This is the result. Why did she bother?
