How long till vehicle is taken?

We went BR yesterday (still feeling very emotional and not quite myself
:-( ). Or said my OH's car (tool of the trade as he's a driving instructor) will be taken away. We have our OR interviews next week and I was wondering how long do you think we have before they take the car? OH has a pupil's test booked on 24th Nov and really needs the car to do this person's test. He will be gutted if it goes before then (obviously the pupil won't be too pleased either!).
Any help appreciated.

What explanation did the OR give for the car going??????????0
-
She said the value is too high to keep. Car is worth £6,000 and she gave us an option of getting someone to buy it off us at current market price they will decide on, or have it taken away and they may offer us an amount of £2,000 to purchase a new one.
He understands it's our fault and all but he just really wants to get this one pupil sorted before we lose it as it's not their fault we're having the car taken?!0 -
Why not negotiate with the OR?
Not so much regarding the BI in the car..but regarding the time it is taken from you?
I purchased the Interest in two of my vehicles...for nottalot.....this occurred several months after my BR date.
I would be surprised if any action was taken this month! No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Thanks peg, that's real helpful, didn't really understand what she was saying in regards to buying the vehicle but gather she meant that we need to find someone else to buy the car off us, so is the same as buying the interest? How much would this be and how do we do it?0

Is it dual control? I'm guessing that means a lower resale value as limited market (or expense of getting it taken out). Does the value reflect that?
Also, is it owned outright?0 -
Firstly...exactly how was the car's value arrived at?
[Is it your valuation?....from where did the valuation come?]
If it is a driving school[?] car, then this will impact on the car's value....especially if it has undergone conversion for dual controls.
Has this aspect been taken into account?
In my experience, when applying a value to a car [for BR] one needs to look at the lowest valuation, ie trade-in, or auction.
This can be found in Parker's.
The car obviously seems to be a 'tool of the trade'....assuming the Driver Instruction thing is a full-time employment..ie a main income?
Has this aspect been made clear to the OR?
It is possible to 'buy' the car from the OR...[ie, purchase the interest]...the cost being an agreed amount, between the OR's allowance to you for a car...and the agreed valuation.
If you can stump up the cash, then go for it if you wish.....I suspect the OR's office will be well pleased..saves them a shed-load of hassle.
Before somebody jumps in with 'how come they're declared BR yet could afford a grand or three to 'buy' back a car?'.....it is perfectly reasonable for a newly-BR individual to be in possession of a reasonable amount of cash...it may be a gift...for example, from someone close.....or simply, utilisation of an amount saved/put by?
Payment may not be essential immediately...savings may have been made elsewhere in he budget, to allow for this.....?
After all, BR's have been known to stump up deposits and rent for a house, after BR...where do folk think this money has come from? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
They have to deal with a vehicle quickly, not sure but I think it is within 2 weeks or 21 daysIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0

Hi,
I went BR in April and it took almost 2 months to sort out what was going to happen with my car. It was worth £4000 so I wasn't allowed to keep it automatically, but the OR did say I could keep it for a "token payment". This ended up being £1500, which I managed to borrow from a family member. I certainly wasn't rushed into making a decision either, but I suppose this varies from office to office. If you aren't able to keep it somehow, I would suggest explaining your circumstances to your OR and hopefully they can arrange for it to be collected after 24th. Good luck!0 -
How ridiculous. If the OR takes-away the tools of the trade, then how is the op's oh supposed to earn a living and thus pay-off as much of the B/O as he can?Never Knowingly Understood.
