Hello ladies! Hope everyone as well and your wedding planning is going well!

Our wedding date is set finally for 16th July 2011, so not long to go at all!
What we've done so far and how we saved money:

Church booked
Reception booked - we're renting a social club for the night, which cost £100, along with a £100 refundable deposit on the night! Decorating it ourselves

Cake - being paid for by a relative

Cake boxes - eBay

Food - buffet, from Costco, Bookers etc. Also asking some friends to make up a dish and bring it to the wedding

Wine - we're putting a bottle of red and a bottle of white on the table to get people started, after that it's off to the bar for them! But it's cheap at the social club anyway. Going to Calais to buy cheap wine, as even with £3 corkage it works out much cheaper than having the hall supply it. I can send someone a msg with the PDF attachment if they're interested, you can get wine for £1.59 a bottle!

Music - asking friends who DJ at clubs to do it at the wedding

Dress - bought a sample size for £400, plus paying another £100 or so to get it fitted, so £500 in total

Rings - thinking of going to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham to do it, as we want our fingerprints engraved on the inside of the rings

Transport - relatives with nice cars!

Hair and make-up - doing my make-up myself and asking a relative who is a hairdresser to do mine and the bridesmaids' hair

Bridesmaids - I've asked them to buy their own dresses to make sure they all get something they like and that suits them as they are all very different shapes. I'm going to get them matching accessories though!

Honeymooon - Easyjetting it to the Mediterranean, where OH's parents have a flat, so we're going to stay there!

That's all I can think of for now :D will no doubt post on here more!

Sounds good but if you're only going to put 2 bottles on each table, say 10 tables wine from Calais = £31.8 not including, travel, ferry, exchange rate etc.

3 for £10 deal at Tescos for good wine = £66
    I love surprises!

If you're going to bookers anyway you can get cases for less than supermarket.
well done with all the planning though, you sound more organised than me!!

We were going to order 40 bottles, 20 of red and 20 of white. 40* 1.70 (rounding) = 68 + (40 * 3 - corkage) = 120, so £188 for 40. With the Tescos offer it would work out as roughly about £247 including corkage. We will try to catch one of the cheap ferry days that apparently some ferry companies do.

The prices on the website are in GBP so I suppose if we got cash out and they accept it, we wouldn't have to pay card fees for overseas transactions either!

I have to be honest, it's mostly the MIL's doing. I've bought a wedding planning book and made about a billion lists but would have never done anything by now if she hadn't kept pushing for answers - in a nice way, of course!

To be honest, it's a little upsetting that she seems to be more involved than my own mother. Don't get me wrong, we're on great terms, but my mother seems to think that everything costs loads - whenever I mention something I want on the day to her, she says, "You'll never be able to afford that!" even though there are huge cost-saving solutions, most of them I picked up from here! And then she gets offended and claims that I discuss everything with the MIL but not her, even though it's not really much fun discussing wedding plans with someone who seems to be against everything I suggest :(

    Phew, rant over!

Quite a few supermarkets sometimes give you extra money off when you buy 6 bottles etc. I also remember sainsburys doing a lovely case of wine last year at a great price it worked out cheaper than the 3 for a tenner offer. I think it might have been wolf bass or something like it. That came out nov/dec i am sure.

especially with christmas and new year on the way I think you will find some really good supermarket deals on both wine and even champagne....check out those before you head to france...Ive stopped doing the france trips as really once you add everything in you can get just as good deals over here...

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

oooo just thought and dont' forget cashback sites. Maybe one of those deals where you buy a case and get £20 back etc might work for you? I cannot look at the mo the kids used up all the bandwidth and i am stuck with mega slow pages. Quidco was driving me loopy earlier it took 10 minutes to get search and load and click through to littlewoods. Roll on tomorrow its the new month and internet will speed up massively for me woohoo

I think we're going to set our guide price as £188 INCLUDING corkage and see if we can beat that! My mum's seen a few Dover - Calais £5 return ferry offers so will wait for one of those I think, we don't live far from there so petrol wouldn't be a massive problem, unless of course we can beat that price here.

I like how everyone's focused on the booze :D

We're not paying for the flowers, a relative is, but another relative is also a florist so we're going to him for advice because to be honest I'm clueless about flowers and not particularly bothered either :D
