Florida Cancun holiday

If this is the wrong place sorry....

I recieved a phone call today saying I had won a holiday to florida and cancun, it all sounded good. (I can't remember what company she said she was from) and I had applied for florida holidays on here.

However she asked me for my bank card details....I wasn't willing to give these to her, but she said she needed them to verify who I was or something because the holiday was worth over £3000. I still refused to give them to her as I was worried about the safety of my bank....She then hung up on me!

Please tell me i've done the right thing and it was a bogus call!!

  • Sounds very dodgy to me. I wouldn't give my bank details - I think you did the right thing.

  • I'm worried though because she asked me for my card details and gave the first two numbers of my card....How on earth could she have known this?! I'm quite savvy with details like that I wouldnt go giving them out willy nilly

Are the first numbers on your card 45? There are a few combinations which most cards start with, like that one. I know this from working in shops in the past. She could have been just taking a guess.
  • 47...Could that be the same...When she asked me to confirm my card details bla bla bla I did ask her to read them back to me if she knew them, and she refused saying I might not be who I say I am. lol then I refused again and she hung up.

Anyways, just wanted people to be aware just in case they get a similar phone call

Spam/scam, might be one of those you have to make your own way over there and find there are lots of extras as well or just a complete scam.
Nothing special about the first 2 numbers on your card, I think all mastercards start between 50 to 55 and visa are 40 to 49 and if you stick to major banks/cards that narrows it down even more.

Right thing never to give your card details out.

Have you got the phone number they were calling from? Might be worth googling it to see who they are....
