A day's shopping in Coventry - some questions

I am spending Saturday in Coventry, All On My Own while DH and DS2 play Go, and I have some specific bits and pieces to look out for.
  1. On a previous trip, I found an independent department store kind of place where I managed to buy my kind of cheese slicer. Only I can't remember what it was called or where it was - any suggestions? It wasn't a name I'd come across anywhere else.
  2. I could do with a bra buying session. Larger lady, smaller bust, if that makes sense, so not Bravissimo.
  3. If either of the above are near any charity shops, that'd be a bonus! ;)
Also shall I park at the University (where they are playing) and get the bus in, or are there sensible places to park for shops? (ie not costing an arm and a leg!)

I'm pleased to report that I've found a shop stocking Healthy Back Bags on the Cannons Park retail bit which I know quite well, so I shall head there as well!

Just to let you all know (if anyone cares), I have had a very pleasant day on the Cannons Retail Park and in Leamington Spa.

I have made a decision about which bag I want, but haven't been able to buy it in pink. I didn't find bras, or a cheese slicer, but I did pick up several bargains in various charity shops.

And a lady in a kitchen equipment shop said that there still is a dept store in Coventry, it used to be Owens but she can't remember what it's called now. Near the Godiva Hotel. Anyone?

  • There is a department store - it is part of the Co-op. I think it might be called 'Rooms' although I am not 100% sure on that one.
I like shopping in Coventry although I don't go very often. It does seem to have quite a variety of large and small shops and lots of different places to look for things.
Glad you had a good day
Have only won small things - amounting to just over £100. A lot better than nothing though! :j :hello:
October winnings - bag of organic compost and 2 Grolsch glasses :T

    Number 451 - winnings to date - about £100

Looks like there aren't many MSEs in Coventry, SS!:p I went to what was Lanchester Poly (now Coventry Uni, I beleive) - but that was so long ago I probably wouldn't recognise the place now!

Glad you had a good day..........

Just noticed your post, sorry it is a bit late. My DD is at Warwick uni so I shop at Cannon Park and in Leamington several times a year. I don't know the centre of Coventry so well. I was going to suggest you tried Leamington as I think it is a lovely place to shop. Glad you had a nice day, next time I am in Coventry, next month, I will have a look for a department store if that will help?

Just thought I am pretty sure there is a Debenhams and a Co-op.

Thank you all for popping up late, it's never too late to know about good places to shop ...

Ah, it could have been Rooms: sounds familiar, but I saw one of them in Leamington and the assistant said they didn't sell utensils, only appliances, so then I wasn't so sure.

 I definitely won't be able to get my special cheese slicer in Primark!

DS1 went to Warwick, and DS2 is there too, it was DS3's 2nd choice so I was planning to ask for a Buy 2, Get 1 Free offer on the fees. :rotfl: I haven't been into the centre of Coventry very often (scared of the Inner Ring Road!), but I usually 'do' Cannon Park when I'm there. When I have been in, I have liked the mix of shops.

If you are passing that Rooms place, then just a confirmation that they do kitchen utensils would be lovely. I am sure they won't do one in Debenhams, but I never get to a large enough Coop.

BTW I didn't mention that I found a 2 hours free bit of on-street parking in Leamington, so that made me happy too. ;)

I will look out for it. My three have all been to different unis and number 4 is looking at going to another one next year. I certainly get to see the country, actually thinking about it number 2 went to two different unis as he didn't like the first one and transferred at the end of the first year. Number 1 did his PGCE at another one. I wonder if they do sticker books for unis as I think I would fill a few places.

  • Sorry late to this, but I wonder if the shop you meant was TJ
Hughes?? There's also a Co-op Rooms and Debenhams, also Wilkinsons in the town centre and there's a few charity shops for future reference. I don't drive atm, but have a feeling the car park by the shopping centre/market isn't too steep.

There's also an Ikea in the centre of town now :D
Hoping to get money smart enough to avoid working full time and paying extortionate money to a stranger for the privilege of enjoying my two beautiful children for 40+hrs a week until my son is 3 and my daughter starts school in 2012 :D
