we don't think about the money tbh. we buyt them what they want. of course we don't buy everything. but we buy whats important to them and what there going to enjoy the most. my children don't really have a concept that 1 item has cost more than another they just appreciate and enjoy what they have. having said that my children are 7, 5 and 2.5. so xmas is very easy for me still ,lol. and they all play with each others toys and share anyway.

Mine are only two years apart and I try to match their presents on number and wants. The year dd got a dslite (£100) ds got a portable dvd player (£50). They were both thrilled and his has probably had more use out of it, they wouldn't have had any idea that they cost such different amounts but understood that they were expensive, 'grown-up' presents. Over the course of time it will all balance out as some years what ds wants comes to more. I try to only get them things that I think they'll want and play with lots so I would never buy more things just for the sake of trying to spend more money. OP, I'm sure there'll be a year where your younger one wants something like an Ipod Touch and your older one wants a designer shirt or something and then it will balance out.

No,I don't spend the same amount of money, normally i get them what they've asked Santa for and made the piles look the same, this year, however, i have spent about the same, but it was a bit of a fluke because normally my older one gets slightly more spent on her because she wants more expensive things. I don't feel guilty about not spending the same.
  • I agree with you all, i will leave it with what I have already bought and not worry about spending more. Really didnt want to fill the house with more carp anyway!

Thank you all for not making me feel like a bad mother for spend more on one of them!!!

I have 4 boys who are 3,4,6 and 9. I don't spend the same amount on each child, I buy them the same amount of presents. My eldest 2 are having an xbox and a new tv, my 4 year old is getting a super nintendo, you do the maths :rotfl:.

i've just added up what i've spent on DS (9) and DD (2) and found ive spent £34 more on DD than DS, it wasnt intentional to spend roughly the same amount as I just tend to try and get at least a few things off their 'santa list' and then get a few bits that I think they would like. I make sure they have roughly the same amount of presents rather than the same amount of money. I also have no problem buying things second hand, DS wants a BMX for christmas this year and DD wants her first 'big girl bike'. The expense of 2 bikes in one year is bad enough but BMX's are not cheap, so his was an ebay special for £50 and DD is new from halfords half price sale at £60. DS will be beside himself over the bike as he desperately wants one and really believes at this moment in time that we cannot afford to get him it.

I have DD (5) and DS (3) at the moment I've always spent the same. However DD has asked for Nintendo ds next year, so she will have slightly more spent on her. But I know as they get older it will even out as DS starts asking for games consoles etc.
To be honest nearly everything I got was in a sale or a 3 for 2. So if I added up the price they all should of been one has probably had more.

I always spend the same on the older 2, they are DD 13 (14 in january) and DS 12.
DD wants a laptop this year, only getting her a netbook, not a full size lappy. DS had the same option but doesn't want one now, he wanted a PS3 , bit out of our budget, he only had his Xbox 360 last xmas, so told him we'll get the wifi dongle for that and a year's membership to xbox live, and a couple of games. Gonna buy him one of those cheap versions of the Ipad £66 on ebay. Sisters just bought one and its fab. So DD will have one present DS will have about 5 lol........ They are older though and understand its not how many they get, they know they've had the same amount spent on them.
Youngest DS is 2.5, he's having bits and bobs, gonna buy him a kitchen with pots n pans, play food and a shopping trolley lol. His will probably total around £70, where as older 2 will have around 150 spent on them.

Well the boys 10 and 8 prob have the same spent on them this year and the same number of presents but their requests are more expensive now.
DD will be 3 on Dec 3rd so is not even getiing the same amount spread between her birthday and christmas. It would be mental.

The boys both want bmx's. I have already bought ds1's and it was £114. Not found one I like for ds2 yet but I suspect his won't be as expensive in fact the one I might get is £80.
They both wanted dsi's but have told them they have no chance.
My H is going to trade in their still in as new condition ds lites and get them dsi's (we are newly seperated)
My eldest has asked for an addidas tracksuit £40 and a new mobile phone £40
Ds2 wants an electric guitar (have seen one reduced to £40 in asda)

We have never spent this amount of money on them before but they have had a tough couple of weeks with H leaving so its hard not to just get them what they want although this year I am not buying all the little bits I usualy buy just to bulk up their piles.
They never play with toys other than lego and my mum has bought them that. so I'm not buying anything just for the sake of it.

Dd was really into Dora for months and wanted a big girls dora bike.
They were £80 in Argos but I got one in perfect as new condition on the car boot for a fiver (yay me) and now she is not into Dora anymore lol
    Thankgod I didn't buy the £80 one.
She will still like it and its tough if she doesn't ha ha. Have also got her the kiddyzoom + camera in the amazon sale for £24 and I know she is going to LOVE it.
This will be her best present as she is camera obbsessed.
Have got her some cheap wrap ups from home bargains to bulk out her pile but I'm not buying her anything else as I know she will not be intrested in anything but the camera. + H and I are both 1 of 4 so she will get lots of presies anyway.

She is having a click start computer from home bargains for her birthday.
