what scares me more about the Outback is that you can spend hours and hours driving without seeing human life.
some people may like this but it wasn't for me...
one thing that amused me was that local people get quite excited and are very nice when they see you because they don't get to see 'new faces' very often.
I listen to a podcast from the BBC of a Sydney based Australian doctor and scientist called Dr Karl Kruszelnick. He also broadcasts over here but to a teen audience and the jingles p!ss me off so I prefer the more sedate BBC version.
Firstly, he is fascinating and amazing and a great communicator. Secondly, he loves getting his family into a 4WD and getting out into the deserts and rainforests of Australia. He tells a story of driving for 2 weeks and seeing no other vehicles!0 -
My cousin lives about 6 miles outside of the nearest town in coastal Qld. I don't think people realise how rough life can be in Aus compared to here. Can you imagine how much Brits would moan if they had to harvest their own rainwater as they are off the grid? If my cousin doesn't harvest six months' worth she has to buy it and that's expensive. Further, she has to keep a big dog to warn of snakes and every night the cane toads come up to the house to catch the bugs that drop off the bug zappers. It's a lovely house, but no way could I live there. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Great skies, I notice all the kids in the yard had hats on where over here they'd be banned
Others may have additional views, but I think they might be guilty of "stereotyping".
You forgot riding kangaroos to work and walking on their hands
