Claiming Jobseekers and working for nothing?

Hello there,

I was made redundant a month ago after 20 years and now recieving jobseekers allowance, my mortage, loan and CC are all covered with PP and all have been accepted.

My brother has started renting a unit and has plans to use it as a PC repair center and for offering people fitting and tuning in AV home cinema equipment.

Both of us have been doing this outside our previous jobs for years and have quite a good reputation for most things computer related and technical.

To help get his idea running i was going to help him out to see how it goes and i won't be getting paid for it......he would not make any money himself until he pays off the stock he is planning to buy.

How does this go when claiming jobseeker allowance? I don't want to jeopardize anything now that my claims are going to be paid and i recieve jobseekers allowance?

I know there is plenty of dishonest people out there that work and claim benefits bit i am genuinely going to be working for nothing until he makes some money.....if any.

Any information appreciated.

Cheers.

You can only usually do voluntary work for a charity. I can't see them allowing you to do what you are suggesting.
    Gone ... or have I?

At my initial meeting at the job centre (2 weeks ago so this info is recent) I was told I could do as many hours volunteering for a charity as I wanted however if the company isn't a charity the max I could do was 16 hours a week as any more and they believe you should be getting paid.

Keep the job centre informed just to cover yourself.
