Hi Crumbling,
I've got a Cuttlebug and like you deliberated for ages about what to get. Like Craftygranny says, it is more compact and folds up for easy storage. I don't think you should worry about it not being sturdy enough because when you fold the sides down a 'sucker' underneath attaches it to the table so it won't move. Both makes seem to take a variety of embossing folders and dies so that shouldn't really effect your decision. My Cuttlebug came with 4 mini embossing folders (about 1 inch square) and one die (again about 1 inch square) so you can play with these to begin with. I think these things come as standard with the Bug, it wasn't part of a special offer or anything.
The things that really made me decide I wanted a die cutter are the Nestabilities dies. Google them if you're not sure what I mean (sorry, I can't post links yet). They're about £15 - £20 each but well worth it in my opinion. These have made my Cuttlebug invaluable and I now use both things nearly every time I make a card.
I hope you're happy with whatever you decide on! :-)

thank you princess tiger.
i bought the big shot this morning - feel like i'm regretting it already but i can't take it back as one of the plates is already marked:(
i'm just looking for some nestabilities actually - didn't realise they were so expensive!! the one i got free is a quick cutz cutter & embosser which looks similar to the nestabilities.0 -
