what are my rights regarding neighbour's tree roots/branches on my land?

Hello everyone
Does anyone know what my rights are regarding the above, two trees are much higher than my house and blocking out a lot of light, also the roots are starting to come up in my back garden, and I am concerned that they will cause damage to the house.
I have not approached the neighbour directly (he is a farmer and this is one of his fields, occupied by cows!) however I have heard that he is un co-operative.
Any advice on my legal rights would be much appreciated.

Good idea to seek some advice first, because if you kick off on the wrong foot with your farmer neighbour and you decide to sell your home at a later date and fail to tell the new owner that you had a dispute with your neighbour then you are on sticky ground to start with!
But got no immediate answer to your Q!0 -
You have right to remove any branches of a tree that fall into the boundary of your land. As for the root of the tree in your land, it may be worth speaking to the farmer first and point out that it may undermine the foundations of your house. Could cost him money in the longer term!! With any luck he may need some firewood and cut it down.:rotfl:0
