Mortgage Arrears - Barclays

I would just like to register what happened to me recently. I increased my monthly payment to my Mortgage Reserve account as I had sailed over the "overdraft" limit on that account. Its a long story, but since losing my lovely husband I have suffered severe financial difficulties, but am coming through them and was unaware of this overdraft. Having said that, letters were coming to me showing balances on the account which were both in credit/debit. In a nutshell, I owed 500 on the reserve account so increased my monthly payments to cover this over 12 months. For some bizzare reason, Barclays passed my 'arrears' to a company to recover my debt. This came as a complete surprise as the the field agent called at my property wanting to discuss my finances and get the matter settled! I was not at home that day, but was left a rather frightening letter threatening repossion if I did not contact him. I did contact the company and was very uncomfortable speaking to them about my finances without any information as to who they were! I checked with the bank who were very surprised as only in cases of complete non payment of mortgage would such action be taken. Once in the hands of these people, they HAVE to visit you/property and bank cannot stop them even if you offer to pay your arrears (if you can). I just wondered if this was normal practice !!! very stressful and very frightening that people would be visited in this way.. Wondered if anyone else had to go through such a thing for such a small amount of money owing ... especially when you think you are playing catchup !!

I had a mortgage with Barclays, and I to got in arrears at one stage but the mortgage section was based in Ireland, is that still the case?

With my arrears they gave me an option to pay less by extending the period to bring the payments down, I had to take this at the time as I was in a mess.
