Like J-Man, I asked about clothes from the Jobcentre too. Was told the money has run out...which was why I mentioned the Dress For Success help. I've been looking at MSE for ages, but never felt I had anything special to offer it on the forums - I thought the Dress For Success was worth a look though, which was why I joined the forum.
I buy most of my stuff off ebay or from charity shops, sample sales (Long Tall Sally has a fantastic one - skirts are £3, I think dresses are £5). And of course, you can always shorten things (which is what I do). And 'swap shops' with friends is something good too - bring clothes you don't want/fit, see what others have and if you like anything. And you can all have a cup of tea and a chat.
I appreciate that it's tough for everyone looking for work, sorry I don't have the answers for everyone who needs interview clothes. I've borrowed interview suits and had my sister do my hair and makeup for one before.
I think that part of it is knowing that someone cares - and believes in you. We need to believe in ourselves, though it's not always easy. But just one person who can remind us - even if we haven't shared much of our life with them - that we are special and are capable of getting a job and succeeding - helps. I might have borrowed clothes for an interview, but knowing that someone is rooting for us, can make a difference.
I know that everyone's circumstances are different -and that some may feel quite alone in their jobsearch - but please, let's keep encouraging each other to keep going.
Keep trying for jobs everyone !! We can do it
Someone was telling me that if you ask to be referred to Reed via the Jobcentre, Reed can give you different sorts of help when getting back to work, incl ASDA vouchers? I haven't found out much about it but again, worth a try?
Now, I'd better continue my jobhunt...yeesh. Mind you, the course is helping!
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing that and wish you luck with your jobhunt. I've never heard off such a scheme but if it is available widely my local job centre in west London have kept it quiet! All those brands you mentioned are lovely. Do you have a direct link to Dress For Success you can share?
But fingers crossed this gives you the boost to find the role with your name written all over it : )0 -

Can I be the one to put forward its a bit sexist to only provide clothes for unemployed women for interviews? Surely they should be providing clothes for all reaches of society?
most women have loads of clothes employed or not. its the men that can wear the same undies for 1 month before washing and live off less clothes in 1 yr than a woman wears in 1 week.
So men should be offered the free clothes ( obviously not a skirt and blouse or thats just asking to not find work)Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -

Right so why don't a bunch of snappily dressed guys get together and set up the same organisation for the brotherhood and pass on their designer clobber to men in the same position as women who need help? I believe this organisation was set up by women to help women. There is nothing in the way of guys doing the same is there?
The mens market is booming there are tons of Saville Row stylee tailors and suited and booted companies around.0 -

I am astounded to hear that the job centre actually gave £200 for clothes! No wonder the country is in such a state! Another barmy labour idea I suppose??? There should have been a repayment scheme attached to this.0 -

If you looked into the "extra help" you can apply for if your on benefits you would fall off your chair. No wonder people stay at home on benefits posting about how terrible it is that they can't get a free freezer from npower.0 -
Hi guys can we not turn this in to a benefit bashing thread. Please only discuss the freebie. If you want to continue discussing benefits please use the benefit board or discussion time board. Thanks:hello:0

Just google it. They do free clothes for men too and you could also ask the job centre.
