New Supermarket Comparison Website: Launch on 18.10.06

Hello all MSE's
As money saving is why we're all here, I just thought I'd post about a new supermarket comparison website which is going to be launched on Wednesday (18.10.06) called:
www.mysupermarket.co.uk
I don't know how long they will be around for, or whether they will bring a new dimension to the existing cost comparison sites out there (many of which are featured on this website already), however, it can't hurt to have yet another money saving 'tool' at the disposal of us experts.
Roll on Wednesday for us to find out more eh....
Here's an article about the site:

A NEW website for online shoppers claims it can slash weekly grocery bills.
Customers simply type in what they normally buy at one of the big four stores - Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury or Waitrose - and the site shows which is cheapest that day.
It will also suggest further ways to save money using like-for-like alternatives such as own label products.
The site, www.mysupermarket.co.uk, which will launch on Wednesday, has cost more than £1million to set up.
Spokesman Johnny Stern said: "Many grocery shoppers have told us they feel they could be spending their money more wisely but don't know how to do it."

I do this on Firefox browser (probably works in others).
I have I have the direct links to the Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury or Waitrose online shops in a bookmarked folder together with Tesco Pricecheck.
I just click open folder in tabs and they all come up (tesco is a login so I have Firefox remember the details).
Then I type the product or copy and paste it into the search box on each site (someone cleverer than be could maybe automate the typing in if they can program in Firefox) but it only takes a few seconds manually.
Then I find out the cheapest price or where it is on offer - I find this more up to date that the current supermarket comparisons sites I have visited, I will see how this new site works when it is launched.
If anyone wants to do something similar the links I use -
http://www.sainsburystoyou.com/
http://www.tesco.com/superstore/
(it is a required log-in but my browser is set to remembers the details)
http://www.asda.co.uk/asdashop.html
(have to click the green "Take a look" button no need to log-on)

As promised the site is now live. :j Funnily enough, I think firespire will find that they have done exactly as he/she described in the post above, but have turned out a very slick 'whistles and bells' version.
I've just spent some time looking around and seeing how easy it is to navigate etc and I have to say that at first glance it is looking like a site that I will be using regularly. Of course I haven't managed to explore everything yet but the most useful and impressive feature so far was that I was able to import my favourites from my Tesco online account, into mysupermarket for immediate use in price comparisons with the other 3 stores. Fast and very efficient. Within seconds I had all my items from my Tesco favourites available - with full colour pictures.
The process is very simple and straight forward. I really liked the way that there is a running total from all 4 supermarkets every time you add an item to your 'main' supermarket basket. I won't confuse matters by explaining how it all works, suffice to say, try it out for yourself and see what you think.
Registration was quick and easy and I'm sure with a bit more use, I'll be using this, particularly when trying to find the best deals on either individual items, or my shopping basket overall.
Having now experienced what the site has the potential to offer, I am of course wondering how long this will stay a 'free' service. Information about who's behind the site has been extremely thin on the ground leading up to launch, so it will be interesting to see what information emerges now it's live. Not seen any ads yet, so was curious about how 'they' are making money...
I'm liking it, but will feel better when I get some feedback from other MSE's.

Hi,
Just checked out the http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk which seems very good. Filled my basket up in tesco and they came out cheapest. Haven't ever bought my groceries online, but may do in future. However, this is even handy for checking which is the cheapest for what you normally buy in store.
It was very easy to use and the comparison is direct and clear. It also lists your products in a clear way.
The only thing I would say is there seems to be a little bug in that you might accidentally add more than you eman to when adding a product. This is beacause it comes up with a little flag saying adding but it doesnt go away! It does seem to add though as soon as you click the product.
All in all I think this should be very heavily used and is a great tool for people like us, so its a big thumbs up from me!
Thanks for listening,

The bloke who's brainchild this is was on Breakfast this morning. A very good idea IMO.
Just tried it out and I think it's superb. Easily linked to our previous favourites from when we used to shop online at Tesco and it's far more user friendly than using the 'proper' Tesco site! Very impressed! I wonder if they are getting a cut of the sales generated?I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0 -
OK it must be me, but how do you actually start shopping on this site. Can't see where to click except to get special offers, etc. I just want to do a shop!0

Is this site sponsored by Tesco? I put in my postcode and it told me to start shopping at Tesco even though my nearest supermarket is Waitrose, followed by Sainsburys.0

As Tesco is top of the list it is ticked for your shopping, have you tried ticking another box?0 -
