Laser printers?

Our printer has finally given up. We are thinking of buying a laser printer this time around.

Any recommendations? Anything you think we ought to look out for/beware?

Needs to be colour, compatable with windows7 and preferably wireless

Thanks

The main thing with any printer is the cost of replacement ink/toner. Some toner cartridges cost more than the printers themselves. The ones supplied with the printer will only be half full.

This is about the best bargain on the market. It's a big, hefty old fashioned Dell but comes with 2 sets of toner and replacements are fairly reasonably priced. It's £134 including delivery. I don't know if it's Windows 7 compatible. You'll have to contact the retailer to find out.

  • I got a fantastic Brother HL-2035 laser printer from freecycle recently and works wonderfully. The guy who was giving it away had it only for one year. I did have to wait a while for it though but was worth it in the end.

I've seen toners on ebay for around £18, these can cost twice that, if not more, elsewhere.

I would also highly recommend a brother. the compatible cartridges you can buy for them have huge page yields and cost next to nothing. There very reliable. Remember not to fuss to much over the cost of the printer because its the cost of the cartridges that will catch you out. if the printers cheap but the ink isnt then it wont be long before youve paid over the top just for ink. Check here for some decent toner prices to give you an idea of what you should buy.

I've not tried 7dayinks and Buytech though you could try these as well for ink cartridges/toners. And not forgetting ebay as I've already mentioned.

You may also notice that these cartridges aren't actually genuine as such, they're refills. They're actually most likely to be refurbished. It appears that this is how cartridges/toners are done these days. Same goes with Compatible Inkjet Cartridges [most likely].
