how long to pay into protection fund?

Hi all
there is a chance that my wife is going to be laid off next month. As she is currently on maternity leave the redundancy process would not start formally until her return in January. As I am not working either we are thinking about taking out mortgage payment protection. My question is how long would we have to pay in for before being able to make a claim?
thanks

It probably differs depending on who you take it out with. Mine was 30 days or something like that, not long anyway.
Problem is that if any insurer gets to find out that there are redundancies looming at your wife's place and that her job is possibly under threat, they won't pay out.
