We have lots of Mushrooms at this time of year coming up on the lawn for some reason. Kids are now old enough not to touch them but we usually just use the lawn mower to get rid of them (if it's dry enough!)

I'm not sure it is possible to get rid of them. Fungi spread by two methods, spores and also thin trails they put out underground sort of like roots. Basically what I'm saying is thay'll be back next year too. I think it is likely you will just have to make sure your kids know not to eat anything out of the garden unless they know it is edible. It is not just mushrooms after all, there are plenty of other plants that are poisonous and you may well have some in your garden. Laburnum pods are a particularly common culprit. While there are a number of species of poisonous fungi that grow in Britain there are only a handful of deadly species and you will not be affected unless you eat them. If you want to try to identify the species then have a look at www.rogersmushrooms.com
