Tax rebate

Just been talking to a friend of mine who has recieved a nice little tax rebate. I always thought you got these at the end of the financial year! Up until the end of October I was working full time but then lost my job. I now work part time working just 16 hours a week on the minimum wage. Whilst I was working full time I earned £9499.99 and paid £1144.00 in tax. How do I work out if I can get a tax rebate. I have seen some websites that have a calculator...but wasn't sure what earnings to put in. What I have earned so far...or what I may earn in the whole of the year.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Did you hand in your P45 when you started your new job?

What tax code are you on now?

Hi. No I didn't hand it in. Just working part time for my mum for a few months. My tax coide on my P45 is 647L. Will it now be different? I'm only earning £96 a week.

So what tax code is your mum using for you?

No your tax code won't change - it should still be 647L.

If this tax code is used and on a cumulative basis, any overpayment/underpayment would be calculated automatically..

With £96pw you should not pay any tax but it still all counts towards your year's total.

I spoke to my mum and she said she doesn't use one cos i'm not paying tax! So basically they will work it out on what i've been paid from my last job added onto what i'll earn for the rest of the year. Think i'm due about £130 which will be nice! Will that come at the end of the financial year?
