The Tax Refund Co.

Hello all,
I'm new to the site so apologies if my post is in the wrong section... But my query relates to the Tax Refund company - I provided this company with my details after I got a note in with payslip (my employer is a local government) advertising it. Now, having got to the point where they require my signature to proceed with my (potential) claim,I have decided not to go ahead with it.
So to get to my question, will this have any impact on a tax rebate (assuming I am due for one, which the Tax Refund company seem to think that I am) following the recent errors in the PAYE tax system? I ask as I received an email today advising me that if I do not return the signed forms, any potential rebate will be lost for good!
Many thanks,
Lee

Do they charge a fee for their service?
If your due a rebate your due a rebate whether you engage this company or not. Sounds like the latest bank charge/PPI scam company agenda item.0 -
Yes, 40%
In retrospect I would never have even contacted them but when it's in with my wageslip as a recommendation from the council I assumed it was a good idea (this was before the tax error came to light)...0 -
40%!
Just ignore them and call the Tax Office and reclaim it yourself. You'll probably get more help if you posted your details on here and for free....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
OMG, 40%!
Just do a tax return and claim it yourself! If you don't take it any further with this company it won't impact your ability to make a claim with HMRC directly, which is what you should do. No independent commercial company can stop you from talking to the government organisation who take your tax!
Can you post more as to why you think you have a claim for a rebate? If it's because of the recent PAYE thing, you will be contacted automatically about that. For any other rebate you would usually have some specific circumstance as to why you are owed a rebate (charity payments post-tax as a higher rate payer, company cars, expenses unclaimed as a self-employed person etc).
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Thanks fot your replies! I have actually just called the tax office and they explained the same
I had no reason to believe that I was due a rebate, just when i received their 'advert' in with my wageslip I thought it may be an idea to check if I was. Not knowing (or reading the small print, if I'm honest) that I would be charged such a high rate!0 -
The council may have included the advert with your payslip, probably in return for a fee - but that doesn't mean the council are recommending the company! If you are due a refund of tax, you can find out for free through your tax office. No need to pay a company anything for this.0
