Dependents question.

Hi, me again

Is it fraud if you don't tell the mortgage company that you have dependants?

Well if they ask the question, and you do not give the answer/ or give the wrong answer - then yes

Are you having problems with affordability?

  • Yes, dependants do affect your costs so mortgage companies need to know what risk they are taking. I think all companies will ask and you must declare it truthfully. If you get through the application stage you could have the mortgage pulled at the last moment, that is a situation you really want to avoid.

Of course it is fraud to lie on a mortgage application. What else could it be?

It's just so annoying. I want a mortgage of £145k and have a deposit of £20k. We've worked out monthly costs and after everything comes out we have £1300+ left for a mortgage!

Annoying is one thing.... fraud is another!

You might be better off using your time speaking to a good broker as opposed to looking at ways of making a fraudulent application.

I wasn't trying to do fraud, sorry if it came out that way.

My thinking behind it was my ex never sees or pays for his child, so on a mortgage form he technically doesn't have any dependants. So I was thinking the same could be tried with my current partner. but thinking about it now it was a stupid question as it's obviously fraud.

Another question though, am I a dependant? I have my own income but rely on him for somewhere to live.
