I've been looking it up mr 3dogs. I think it's about the Sheils harbour being crammed and really busy in the nineteenth century
As Mr 3Dogs said, it must mean North Shields as the quayside is there - it is a busy fishing port now, well it was till a few years ago - fishing still done there, but not as many boats these days

I thought you were going to bed ages ago dearest

not got your address. the one's for there are biker and walker. OH was born up there but moved when he was 6/7 so not got the accent.
Was only kiddy about the card Boult:D
Byker is where the slimming class is that I am going to with my neice while I am up here. Walker? Mam was born in Daisy Hill but that was a long time ago of course (1919) - I think Daisy Hill is just referred to as Walker now
Well, after the severe weather warning yesterday at noon, which meant neice's girls' school closing from 1 pm and people warned not to go out unless absolutely necessary, it was OK last night
In fact the thick snow on the roof started melting from late evening and instead of massive icicles, we had drip drip drip all the time - over the course of the late evening we kept hearing funny noises and worked out it was the snow on the roof slipping a few feet at a time, but we were both wakened during the night with the lot sliding to the ground in one go - brother had to dig his way out this morning, through about 3 foot high piles of snow!!
He went out in the morning by bus to Newcastle shopping and the main roads were fine and he did not have much trouble with the buses. Our street is still completely white all the way down the road though, with too much snow in front and behind the car to drive it out. We got a taxi down to see Mam at 1.30 pm which was OK, but return journey at 4 pm was a little trickier as a biting wind was lowering the temperature fast, and the snow which fell as we were there was freezing up. We have just had another hailstorm
Mam was still bright, actually brighter than she has been since she went into this home, and she talked a little and laughed a lot
She looks better anyway as my sister and I put her false teeth back in the other day (was that Saturday/Sunday - I'm not sure now, it was the day she ate the Magnum) - I have a great video on my mobile of the laugh we had doing that as, because she hadn't worn them for a couple of weeks or so, they didn't fit as well as normal - well something like that, casue everytime Sis put the top set in, they just fell downwards and when she eventually got them in place, she could hardly fit the bottom set into her mouth - we were all laughing and giggling so much, including Mam, who kept turning to the camera and smiling to show how her wonkey teeth. I think her mouth being so dry didn't help, but once they were in properly, she did look much better, and enabled her to eat the Magnum comfortably

Ooops, just watching North East weather forecast and it is not good at all for tomorrow - it looks like snow all day with a biting wind   How is everyone else managing in the snow, those that have snow of course!
