Update on Mam:
My sister went down at 9.20 this morning to see Mam to find her talking loudly to people she could see in the room, but no-one there. she did not acknowledge my sister at all. When she checked her, the whole bed and her nightdress etc was soaking wet - her drip needle had been dislodged from her tummy and the fluid had been pumping onto the bed - for how long??? she went to report it to the carers who were sitting having coffee in the dining room, and they came and sorted it out, but there were no nightdresses in her drawer so they put a thin top on her with her bed kacket, but nothing on her bottom half - and she kept pushing the sheet that was over her down and moving it around - so much for the dignity their folder promises. My sister then went to see the nurse who said that she had noticed that she was not herself earlier when she did morning meds and when my sis asked about her nebuliser she said that she could not give her that until after her breakfast - em? Mam needs nebuliser first thing to be able to eat her breakfast and sure enough, they said she had not eaten any porridge. When asked when Mam would have last been checked before that, she said just before she came on duty at 7.30 am. Nurse thought that drip probably dislodged when Mam was checked at that time - so how come no-one noticed till my sis got there then???
My brother went down for about 10.15 (with spare nighties) when sis left and Mam still the same - he had a word with nurse who went straight down to laundry and brought up her 3 clean nightdresses (so why hadn't carers done this instead of putting just a little top on her?). They brought lunch for Mam at 12.30 but she wouldn't eat it, then nurse came with meds and put nebuliser on her, and as I was talking to brother on the phone she pulled the nebuliser off, so he had to put it back on her. I am picking sis up at 2.30 from metro station and going in get some answers from the Doctor (again)
Another annoying thing - when my sister rang here at 9.30 am, my brother did not wake me up - he just got the nighties and went out for the bus, leaving a note for me about what had happened when sis went down and that he would ring me later  He knows that my meds make me sleep late in the mornings but that I can get up if needed - all he had to do was knock on my door and I would have quickly got ready and we both could have gone down together - it would not have taken him any longer to get there as he had to go by buses and I have the car
Oh he has just this moment rang again - he is staying there till we get there (he was going to come home for 2 and then back out with me again at 2.20 !) but I need to take his afternoon tablets down for him and something to eat too - so just going to sort that out now
So, the story so far - part ten:
I am sorry that Mam's health is taking up so much of my diary, but that is how life goes, ain't it? I know that you all care and want to know how she, and I, are doing, which is why I do these updates - and, to be honest, it helps me get my worry and aggression out typing it all down here, rather than getting upset and angry with other people
But that is why people have these diaries isn't it? Those of us with debt problems have to fit them around our normal life and what that keeps throwing at us - we carry on dealing, or otherwise, with our debt problems, no matter what comes up - unfortunately the debt is still there and still has to be dealt with no matter what else is going on in our lives, and typing everything onto here DOES help people get through it all, especially on the most difficult of days
Even if no-one read their diaries, people still have them - it is a great support, even if you are just 'talking' to yourself
....................... to be continued
However, I am so lucky that I have you great folks on here who 'listen' and care - you can have no idea how much that helps - but I am getting weepy eyes now, so best go get brothers meds and food, and get on my way soon, as I have to call at PO down the street on the way
I will be back later to report how everything went

Hi all and thankyou 3dogs for your update, i really was hoping the home your mam was in would be alot more 'on the ball' than they appear to be.

3Dogs....:grouphug::grouphug: special group hugs Sweetie. Sorry to hear that today was not a good day for your Mam....I hope this afternoon was much better though.
I agree with your comments about these diaries being about support & lifting spirits just as much as the debt side. It is when we feel good about ourselves that we make most progress IMO.

beanielou, my DS has just turned 3. Today he started getting himself ready, getting dressed, got shoes, etc. I asked him what he was doing, he said I am going to nursery.
Only thing is new one is going to be all day, and new friends, people he doesn't know. Whereas he already has 2 friends at this current one, he spends the afternoon with them. But am very concerned about his diet from my friend, so am happier he goes to this new nursery. They have a cook who cooks from scratch.
But was talking to DH tonight about him, and he said what a difference compared to when he was going the childminder. It was all I could do to get him out of the house... and I said that was because she didn't have kids his age, and during the summer holidays had no kids! He was on his own.
3Dogs.... ((((((((((((((((((((((3Dogs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I thought this hospital were really on the ball, but it sounds like it is some of the staff, not all of the staff.
I have links to advent calendars competitions if anyone is interested? We might have missed a few days, as have only just remembered to check my e-mail account set up especially for this.0 -
Thank you everyone - just got back and had something quick to eat - exhausted
Update on Mam:
Well, when me and my sister got to the home, brother was sitting beside her and Mam was just rambling on and staring at what only she could see. We took over by her bedside and I held her hand - she did not let go of my fingers for over an hour and a half and my arm, shoulder and neck ached, but it was so funny when at one point she swapped them to her other hand so she could scratch her nose, and then got hold of them with her other hand again. Mr sister managed to get her to eat some ice cream, but it was hard to do
The doctor (main one, who we saw last Thursday after her arrival there) came - we agreed that it had not been the drip coming loose that the liquid had come from, rather she had reached a bowl of water left on her bed-table and dropped or spilt it towards the top of the bed and, with it being a vinyl mattress, it had flowed under her and soaked her nightdress. They had checked her urine and it had lots of nitrates in, plus she may have a chest infection, so she started her on antiboitics, giving her the first dose right away and one at 10 pm tonight, then four times a day
Carers brought her something to eat, but we could not get her to eat more than a spoonful of the mashed potato and gravy. My sister had brought her some mooler rice and she ate about 3 spoonfuls of that. She continued to ramble on but just part sentences and statements, though she did seem happy in what she was saying - Dad was mentioned a few times, as were we, but it seemed like from an earlier time - as is the case with severe dementia. But whenever Mam had a urinary infection in the past, she had had hallucinations, but my brother said it had never been like this before - it was totally different to that
Anyway, the doctor had confirmed that Mam was getting her nebuliser 4 times a day and was due on at 5 and 10 pm, so, having seen the meds trolley in the corridor about 5 pm, we waited patiently for the nurse to bring it. Then we waited impatiently. At 6 pm, I went up to find the nurse and all the carers sitting, as they usually did, outside between the TV lounge and dining room chatting and drinking coffee. I told the nurse that I was 'wondering about Mam's nebuliser ...... the 5 o'clock one' and she replied that she would be doing it soon. At 6.10 pm, my sister went up and the nurse said, before she even got to her, 'I'll be doing it soon but we are waiting for the key for the meds to come up from downstairs' (apparently there is only one person with the key). Oddly enough, just a few minutes later she came up the hall with the meds trolley, and gave Mam her liquid paracetamol and then put her nebuliser on her (6.15 pm). Mam kept tring to move the mask so we made sure it stayed in place and switched it off when it finished, plugging the bed back in afterwards. The nurse looked in about half an hour later and asked how she was. Mam by that time was getting more tired but still mumbling the same things. Poor thing, her body kept trying to get her to go to sleep but her mind was so active it wouldn't let her. Anyway, we came away at 7 pm, when she was almost asleep, but she looked much more settled. We confirmed that she would get another antibiotic and Nebuliser at 10 pm (well, I expect it will be sometime around 10 pm!) and also her normal sleeping tablet, so hopefully, she will get a good night's sleep
We have arranged that my brother will go down in the morning, I will go down at 12'ish, and then pick sister up at 4.30 pm at the metro station and take her down (2 minutes by car but 15 mins walk in the dark and probably ice too). Depending on how Mam is, I will either stay there with my sister, or go home and pop down to collect her later. We are hoping that the antibiotics will have started to work and we can see if this is a sudden worsening of her Dementia/Alzeimers or just the infection talking - we are of course hoping that it is just an infection and she can get back to how she was the preceding couple of days
