iPod device drivers won't install on laptop

iPod works perfectly on any other pc I have tried it on, and as I get no reply from PB, I'm begging for help from you guys. I'm trying to install an iPod 60GB (video) on a Packard bell Easynote E6100. (laptop)

Windows or itunes does not see the ipod. when I am prompted to install drivers, windows searches the cd( the one that came with the ipod) but cant find it. In device manager I see the iPod with a yellow question and exclamation mark, the yellow question and exclamation mark is displayed in Other devices in Device manager.

After I have tried to install or update the drivers for this the error message I get is :-

The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.

In ipod properties I get a (code 28 )

I have updated the PXEngine and Chip set Drivers.

Installed usb drivers, still didnt work. The iPod charges via the usb so i didnt think it would be that problem but updated anyway.

I installed the software before I plugged in ipod, uninstalled and installed 3 times now. And I am using the newer version of iTunes now, the problem is the same.

Thanks in advance for any advice, it will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is relevant but when I plug in the ipod I get a double (usb connection) bleep, not the normal usb device attached sound, but when I disconnect the iPod I get the normal usb device disconnected sound.

You have not said what operating system you are using. When you are prompted to install the drivers, you may have to navigate to the correct sub directory on the CD, to get to the correct drivers for your operating system.

Use windoze explorer to view what is on this CD before trying to load the drivers, to see if their is a specific directory for the drivers for your OS.

    HTH

I have also tride using a differant instalation disk form a 30gb ipod and tried to locate the file manually but still couldnt find them, not sure what file I am looking for as windows dosnt inform me.

Someone else who knows more about a 60Gb video iPod may be able to confirm but I didn't think that you needed drivers with XP. As you are getting the connect/disconnect sound as per normal, perhaps you simply need to remove the yellow exclamation mark displayed in Other devices in Device manager that you mentioned.

I'm not getting the normal connect and disconnect sound, maybe I didnt explain clearly, I get a double beep when I connect the iPod to the laptop, could be 3 bleeps???) but when I discconect the ipod I get the normal usb device dissconected sound.

I was thinking that to be able to remove the yellow question mark I would have to install the drivers ????? the ones that windows cant find on the cd that came with the iPod.

have you downloaded itunes 7? If not i would uninstall itunes, perhaps use ccleaner to clear up any debris left beind.
Install itunes 7 and try again.
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?
  • Hi
I would go back to the device manager and remove the ipod, then reboot. Then when xp has finished, plug the Ipod back in again and see what happens.

    This problem is now solved.

solution for referance just incase anyone else is having the same problem.

All i did was, when asked for location for device driver I pointed it to

    C:\program files\windows\inf...etc

Make sure windows is completely up to date with iPod plugged in.

    as easy as that!!

Thanks for all you help guys. I feel so happy I think I will celebrate in some way.
