Unless it is antiques, I cannot get my head around giving someone something second hand for a present at anytime of year, not just Christmas.
I can't see me using this tip for Money Saving - but good ideas for those who can.

I love charity shops! Lucky for me there are quite a few in a little town near where I live and I never fail to find a bargain! Last year I bought nearly everything from either them or ebay. I also love jumble sales and have had fantastic bargains, namely Nigel Slater hardback cookbook for 10p!!! Loads of designer clothes for peanuts. My kids are also now addicted and even spend their pocket money buying things to sell on ebay!

The dress I'm planning to wear at Christmas dinner (little black one from Evans) came from a local Salvation Army jumble sale for 20p!

I agreed whole-heartedly and he was hugely relieved (very concerned about the reaction) and ever since then we have done that, it really has relieved a large part of the stress and worry about what to buy an age range of 7 through to 81!
Now there are 10 kids under the age of 16 in my family and one has just past the 16 point so this year will just get a card.
It works for us, the kids still have their xmas and the adults have some financial peace!
I totally agree, very sensible, but just to say christams is actually about jesus!
