How do YOU buy a house?

Do you put an offer in on one that you've seen and then go get a mortgage or wait until you've got a mortgage in principle and then offer?

What if you've seen one that you love and could see yourself living there but haven't got a mortgage yet?

It doesn't take long to get a mortgage in principle so I'd go get one and then put in an offer as you'll find your offer gets taken more seriously if you have a MIP.

I'm a FTB and we have an appointment with Barclays this friday but it's soooooo long to wait as I really love this house and know there is an old biddy wanting the house too but has to sell hers first. I'm a very impatient person by the way :rotfl:

I'd see a mortgage adviser rather than going to individual banks. Don't put an offer in until you're further down the path - unfair on both the vendor and the 'old biddy'.

My partner has looked around at different mortgage advisor but they all seem to charge a fee annoyingly.

Not all advisers charge a fee.

It would take half an hour to get an idea of the market by telephone. Decision in principle would take not much longer after that.

Putting in an offer does not stop someone else from buying it.

What you need to do first is look at deals, and decide which you like the look of, based on your circumstances.

You would then need to get an agreement in principle, just to make sure there are no problems with your score with that particular lender.

Once you know you can move forward on the mortgage front, you can then offer sure in the knowledge you should be able to get the mortgage.

Plenty of different advisers work and get paid in different ways - going to the bank means seeing only one option out of many that are available.
