A proud of myself thread

I learned today that I will be losing £400 per month from my salary, so discussed with my busiiness partner the option of working from home. This alone will save be at least £85 per week and that is on childcare and parking alone, it doesnt begin to cover petrol and food, plus the distractions of working in the city centre! So, instead of panicking, freaking out and thinking i would have to once again bury my head in the sand, I came to a logical and cost effective alternative!

The second thing I did today was plan meals for this week including lunches for me and my son and paid for the lot with clubcard vouchers! I have already done our lunches for tomorrow and they are healthy ones too! Saveing money and hopefully losing a few pounds!

This is probably boring but I want make a note of things like this to spur myself on!

    Hi farn,

Well done on turning a difficult situation into something positive. In the current climate it's good to hear of good things coming out of bad.

    Good luck

Congratulations on such clear thinking - may I just ask a little question? Are your children of school age? If they are then that's fantastic, you can work school hours if not have you considered (I'm sure you have) how you will schedule your work in around the children? I bet if you add the cost of childcare and the petrol and food into the equation you will be making a profit plus it may give you more time to home bake and reduce your grocery bill to boot!

I have worked from home before, when we first set the company up, but have since moved in to offices 8 miles from me in chester city centre. It was pratical as we office share and were starting not to have the facilities to operate from home as we grew. Its not ideal, but I take my son to school, come home and work work work till 3pm, collect him, maybe spend 15 mins in the park and come home, i set him up with a snack and some homework (he is only five so letters and numbers) and we work alongside each other at the kitchen table. I just try to get all my important jobs done during school hours and when he comes home I tie up all my loose ends, reply to emails and do general admin. I am lucky that my business partner is going to take most of the operstional side of the business while i concentrate on sales etc so that I can work from my kitchen! Another added bonus is i can go hands free on the phone and work while peeling spuds/doing a wash!
