• Perhaps contact your local college? Many have courses running for this sort of thing with properly recognised qualifications at the end.

Also, start looking for a job with a building firm. If you're not earning much now then you won't be to start with in a building firm. But at least they may pay for some of your training as well as give you on the job experience.

Hello bakerlad1983

I'll move your thread over to the 'Benefits, Tax Credits & Jobseeking' board, where it should get more views and responses.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

• I looked into this sometime ago, you're at a disadvantage because of your age, the majority of courses are aimed at school leavers. Have a look at this, may be able to give you an idea of courses available and costs involved, good luck!

Carillion ,.

if the above link dont work for you look for Construction Training on the main site,.

as for college bla bla bla,. thats what they'll say too u,. unless ur paying for the course u'll have a better chance of getting in.. thats my view after going too a number of colleges,. i only did the basic 12wks course plastering,. and keeped on doing the odd job here and there and got better,.

anyways,. if u cant get in via the above,. and even if u get onto a basic course do the below,.

This is the way to get on site,.

Do a Health and safety - passed that apply for a CSCS card,.

call around/ apply for jobs and u will get on site with this card,. then then start talking too all the plasters/bricklayers etc on site,. u want too become a plasters or brickies mate (Labourer) then just stick with it,. learn of them,.
• thanks all. ill have a look. but as i have morgage and a new baby on the way, i probably wont be able to give my job as a postie up to pursue one of these jobs. thanks to all that replied
