Derrr......I was actually trying to make a helpful suggestion. Suggesting it might be pumpkin soup seemed a tad obvious. Thank you to all those who took it in spirit in which it was intended.
Nobody has said you didn't. Its the post below your that people are talking about.
Somebody actually called in on Saturday Kitchen and suggested the same thing as you.
I wish my OH would eat pumkin as I would try it.0 -
Best to taste a bit of the raw pumpkin and see how you like it before making soup. The supermarkets often distinguish between 'halloween' or 'carving' pumpkins (for decoration/fun) and 'culinary' pumpkins (for eating). The bigger they are, generally the stringier and more watery as they are grown rapidly on less fertile soil specifically for halloween.
I have made soup from the carving pumkins but they are hit and miss and you can waste the cost of the other ingredients if it is just stringy and watery.
Don't mean to be a party pooper though - I love seeing lit up pumpkins, no difference to cutting flowers for decoration, IMO

Love the pumpkin bowl idea Lutzi! May be stealing that one......!! I did make pumpkin soup last year and if I am honest it was not great. Did not give a thought to the rapidly grown issue and culinary v decorative properties of pumpkin so that may explain it. Have not tried roasted pumpkin before - is it as simple as slice, drizzle a little olive oil on it and whack it in the oven?
We never carved pumpkins when I was a child and so I have started it with my boys, well, its dad's job actually and they love it!
As far the whole wastage issue, although I hate waste, I am so not going there on the grounds of a simple pumpkin. There are far more elaborate celebrations at other times of the year that waste significantly more (and thats before we get started on food waste from giant retailers!). If you take every principal to the nth degree you are in danger of killing the fun loving nature of life and frankly we only have one and I would rather take every opportunity to enjoy it!!0 -
