No direct advantage in the form of personal allowance enhancement (unless one of you is 75 or over!).
But some side benefits in the form of putting savings into the name of one who doesn't work / is on a lower rate of tax etc?
Non taxable is the free sex and arguments.;)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Well you can swap assets between yourselves and hold over relief for CGT. (Though there have been reports on here that this is under attack)
You can also die and leave everything to you spouse without paying any IHT; alternatively you can leave nothing to anyone and you spouse will then have a double IHT nil rate band for IHT of 650K.
However the good old days when the tax man paid for the honeymoon when the couple married in the autumn; claiming a full personal allowance for Miss Smith and another full personal allowance for Mrs Jones, are long gone. (Though you can still die in September and get a full years personal allowance).
The "married man's" allowance is also long gone.

Thanx to all-have heard that the conservatives like the idea of encouraging marriage, so will keep eyes and ears open.
Look forward to all the non taxable arguements:rotfl:Thanks to all posters for your never ending help and support:beer:0 -
