Low fat Ice cream

Hi,
We have an ice cream maker which we use a lot - mainly to use up bits of fruit that are on the turn or for special meals.
we are now both on a diet and trying to find recipes for ice cream that are lower in fat than using cream but still taste good.
Any ideas out there??

Hi Mrs_Pepperpot,
I don't know if it will be any use, but there are some egg free ice cream recipes here: ice cream without eggs
and some sorbet recipes here that maybe could be adapted? any sorbet recipes?

Years ago I saw a TV cook called Sue Kreitzman on Pebble Mill at one making fat free ice cream and I made it and it was lovely and often gets made now! You need a pint of skimmed milk and 4 heaped tablespoons of dried milk powder and either 4 heaped tablespoons caster sugar or Splenda, and a tsp of vanilla extract. You just mix it all together and churn in the ice cream maker. It tastes lovely.Jane

How about frozen yogurt? I've made ice cream with greek yogurt (both full fat and half fat) and its delicious.0

I use my ice cream maker for frozen yogurt. Just mix up some pureed fruit, sugar and yogurt, pour it in the machine and hey presto ice cream0

I was going to suggest frozen yoghurt too. The local school has it on it's lunch menu instead of ice cream, healthier and low fat, if eaten in moderation.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

I hate low fat anything - I'd rather have a smaller portion of the real thing. The only reason those that eat healthy things stay so thin is because they taste awful! Who wants a second helping of what tastes like cardboard with a greasy knife run over it ? (wholemeal bread and low fat spread). Now compare that to a fresh french stick with lurpak butter!0
