They are board books, my daughter is 3 and still has board books as well as paperbacks, the paperbacks don't fare so well with her as the pages get creased and pulled out over time and she is not rough with any of her things some of my friends kids ruin things in seconds.
I have ordered these to give to people with newborn up to 2 ish. HTH0 -
