DIY hampers...how are you making yours?

My boyfriend adores American food (think marshmallow fluff and Lucky charms and all that other gross stuff) and as part of his Christmas present I've got an American friend to get me a load of stuff and I'm going to put it all together into a food hamper. I see on MSE people are constantly making hampers but where are you actually getting the boxes from? All the boxes and baskets I've found are going to cost more than all the food put together!

Have a look at this thread on the Special Occasions board. Post 11 is all about where to get the hamper. There are also lots of other threads showing photos of finished hampers which might give you inspiration:

I did 2 hampers for my Mum and Dads joint 60th birthdays...one for my Dad in a Barbecue Vegetable roasting tray with various pastes and rubs (er...barbecue ones before anyone comments!) and another one in a picnic hamper with all sorts of foods that my Mum would never buy for herself (gnocchi, tricoloured pasta etc) The hamper (with plates etc) and the vegetable roaster were both hallf price at our local garden centre and make good presents on their own. They both loved them.0

we're doing food hampers this year too. we're just using cardboard boxes though, you can get them in supermarkets or save them from when you buy stuff. we have some from when we moved house mainly computer boxes that we were given.
anyway, we are going to cover them in material so they look prettier. or let our daughter who is 4 draw on them. its the contents we want to spend the money on
not sure what to do in all the hampers, we'll def be making some things at home too. Im looking forward to it and think they will be really useful too. our four year old has one on the top of her list! 0 -
I'm using a wicker basket that I bought from Proper Job for £4.99, but you can use anything really. Try thinking past the usual, for example if he is a gardener use a planter trough:

May be a little small, but you get the idea.
Or just get any cardboard box and wrap in in Xmas paper really. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Wilkinson have wicker baskets for £3.25 or £2.25 for small ones. Collect in store.

I'm thinking of doing one of these for my bf's nan & grandad as they have invited everyone to their's for xmas, so I feel like I should give them a little something to say thank you
..i'm often the only gf out of my bf and his brothers' girlfriends to actually get presents for people as well, so it'll make me look like the good one
haha
but yeah, I saw a nice box in one of those 'cheap shops' i think it's called QD?!..I'm not sure how many of these stores are around though..0
