  • Have you considered looking in charity shops?
We have quite an asian community here so there are often outfits hanging in our local shop - I'd love to have an excuse to try them on and wear them - they have such fantastic fabrics, colours and prints.

How did it go Katgoddess? Did you eat there? What was your experience of the whole thing?

I didn't go to the temple in the end.

    :o:o:o

I have a seriously bad back :( so decided to play it safe and go back to my office.

I didn't miss out on the celebrations though because we had stuff going on at the children's centre. We had a stories and rhymes session where the children decorated a Diwali house made from a massive cardboard box. As well as listening to multi cultural stories, and colouring in pictures of lamps and fireworks.

The adults, including me :D, had henna tattoos done on our hands and snacked on samosas and bagees. No sweets though, because we have to set a good example. :A ;)

My white British colleague who ran the stories session wore a kurti with jeans, and my Asian British who helps with the session wore a punjabi suit and looked beautiful. :j My colleagues who did go to the temple wore really thin scarves on their heads. Kind of like the ones that are used as belts. I shall get the report from them tomorrow.
