Problems With Nero - Doesn't Recognise Physical DVD-RW

Hi guys,
I've had a quick search for a similar topic but had no joy, so here goes... Many thanks to anyone who can help.
I have an OEM copy of an old version of Nero which came with my desktop about three years ago. It works fine on my desktop and I recently tried to install it on my new-ish laptop. No problems installing it, but I tried to burn a .bin file the other day using Nero and I quickly realised that Nero doesn't recognise my laptop's DVD-RW at all. When prompted for the destination drive, I find that I can only burn an .iso image file and when I search for new drives, it turns up nothing, and the 'search for missing drives' (or whatever the option is called) is greyed out.
I usually use CD Burner XP Pro for CDs and DVDs, and therefore haven't noticed this before. I've now started using ImgBurn for .bin files but I'm frustrated that I can't use Nero for this.
I should emphasise that my Nero is a totally legit OEN copy which I have now upgraded to version 6.3.25 (I think) using the upgrade tool on the Nero website. However, the program still doesn't recognise my DVD-RW!
I don't have my laptop with me right now so I can't give any info on the DVD-RW or the exact version of Nero, but I know for sure that the DVD drive is a Sony and Nero is 6.X.XX (and, as mentioned above, am pretty sure it's version 6.3.25).
Without any info on my hardware etc, can anyone suggest why this might be happening and how I might resolve it?
All of the other programs which utilise the burn functions on my drive (CD Burner XP Pro, ImgBurn, DVD Decrypter) recognise it no problem.

have you tried reinstalling nero?0

Yes, with no success whatsoever.
I have no idea what causes this problem - the newer version of Nero I downloaded from the Ahead website states that it has a fully updated CDROM.cfg file.
Anyone else?0 -
If your Nero came with your dvd-drive / pc then it is locked into that particular dvd drive. It won't work on any other model dvd drive.0

I've used it on another laptop before though, with no problem whatsoever, and I don't see how an OEM package could be 'locked' into a particular hardware type, given that it's a full retail copy of the package, missing only the manual/box/packaging etc.
And as I said, I've downloaded a newer version of Nero which still doesn't recognise my drive, so I find it hard to see how this could be the problem.0 -
Hi
Have you used the Nero info tool, look at the Drive and see whats showing, also look at ASPI0
