Have I made a mistake?

The rubber seal on the bottom of my front door was rubbing my new carpet and making it dirty, and it also meant I couldn;t put a doormat inside.
So I have just cut it off with a Stanley knife.
But now I have a bit of a gap under the door
Have I messed up? And can I redeem it? I wondered about that stuff you stick on the bottom, that's like a little brush.
Would that go over the doormat better than the rubber, which just pushed it out of the way?
Or should I get a draft excluder (yukky things though).
Help!

I have a brush type draught excluder thing on the bottom of my door and my carpet protector thing just jams in it all the time. I persevere as I want to keep my carpet reasonably clean. Don't know what else you could try. Sorry I'm not too much help. Perhaps someone else might have some ideas.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot.
