Bailiff charges

Can sombody help me please. I am in dispute with my local council and their employed bailiff who have stated that I owe charges for visits that they have not made and a vehicle that they should not have levied on (as it was not mine. I do not know who it belongs to).

I have tried to contact herbie21 after reading some of the forums but her inbox is full. Its quite a long and complicated situation. Is there anybody that I can email privately. If not can you point me in the direction of further advice?

Many thanks

  • Sorry one easy question is can the bailiff levy a fee of £3.00 on each £100 payment. They claim that they can do this to cover their admin charges. Opinions on this matter differ with relation to the interpretation of the distress for rent act section 10. What are your thoughts in this forum?
  • Hia were in the same situation at the min council bailiffs apparently can make charges, I was told they cant make 2 charges by someone on here in one visit but just been to CAB today and apparently they can and our next charge will be a low loader lorry charge to take away our cars and apparenty thats hundreds of pounds! Only way they can be stopped is if this is the first time you've had bailiffs for council tax you can get in touch with the council and give them a token payment and sob story promising you will pay monthly then they will withdraw the bailffs and charges.

Unlucky for us we had this done once but then failed on a payment and the bailiffs came back in force and the council wont withdraw them this time so we got some lovely levy charges and walking possesion charges totalling an extra £70 on top of what we already owe!
  • Thank you for that. I hope that you sort your problems out. Are there any of the regulars around that can address some specific questions that I have? Just bummping this up the list a bit.
