Hi to everyone

I joined the other day, and thought I would say hello.
I am on long term incapacity benefit as I had a breakdown through stress last year. I have a mountain of debts, and have been unable to deal with them.
I think finding this place could be the turning point for me, although I find all the boards a bit bewildering!
You all seem very helpful and this weekend I am going to post my SOA (hopefully !).I know I have got to start sorting things out and hopefully being able to come on here will give me that push( kick up the backside) I need.
I have about £ 20,000 + of debts:eek:
Thanks for reading this x

    Hi Stargazer,

I hope you won't find this board too bewildering - we try to share information and advice that could be of help to others - so welcome.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hiya Stargazer, there is no better forum than the DFW, and the posters have loads of info to share and help you along the way.
  • Hi stargazer

I was in a similar position to you - I have beeen unable to work through ill health for the last four and a half years (arthritic back plus panic attacks).

Last week I took the decision, following professional advice, to apply for bankruptcy and became bankrupt last week. I can't tell you what a relief it is to be debt free - even if the method was rather drastic.

I don't know your circumstances - I didn't have much to lose. In fact all the Official Receiver wants from me is my £25 of Premium Bonds! If your debts are unpayable and your prospects of working again are poor then I would recommend looking at bankruptcy but please take advice first. I went to the CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service) and they were very friendly and helpful.

Best of Luck - you are in the right place for help and support. If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have managed to get myself sorted out and was in the real depths of despair. This site and the people on it are definitely the silver lining on the edge of that dark cloud!!

    Regards, Sue
